Venkateswara Rao, Jamshedpur: Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial (LBSM) College set up at Karandih will celebrate its golden jubilee on October 2. The credit for setting up the call at Karandih goes to the family members of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. In 1975, lalita shastri, wife of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, laid the first brick of this college in Karandih. On this occasion, the then MLA founder of the college self. The chief guest at the event will be Potka MLA Sanjeev Sardar and Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University Dr. Prof. Gangadhar Panda as the inaugurator. Several alumni are scheduled to be felicitated during the event. The college has honours in 20 subjects of graduation and Santali and Commerce in post-graduate. A total of 5500 students studied in the college.
The college was started by academicians and intellectuals in 1971
The college was established in 1971 in the name of former Prime Minister of the country Lal Bahadur Shastri with the efforts of local intellectuals and academicians to inculcate education in the rural areas of Jamshedpur. At that time, the college was run at RP Patel High School in Jugsalai. It was shifted to Karandih due to increase in the number of students. There is former MLA Self. With the efforts of Sanatan Manjhi, the college got 11 acres of land at that time. Since then, the college has been writing its development story day by day. Earlier, Principal Dr. Prof. A.V. Verma was one of shastriji's relatives. Because of this, he was deeply attached to the former Prime Minister of the country. On his proposal, everyone named the college.

165 Millions in 3 years, 280 Millions in queue
When Dr. Amar Singh contributed as commissioned principal at LBSM College, the college was facing problems of educational and infrastructure. Dr. Singh, with loyalty to the college, worked to groom the college and today the college has become one of the most developed colleges. This college was also nac during his tenure. During his tenure, a multipurpose examination building at a cost of Rs 11.50 crore, repair of Rs 3 crore and rs 2 crore from RUSA came in.
1500 candidates can sit and appear for the examination at the same time in the multi-purpose examination building. 22 crores sanctioned by the Department of Higher Education for the college and again proposed and sent it through HRD through the University. Now, this proposal of Rs.28 crores has been sanctioned. This will create gymnasiums, accommodation for teachers and staff, common rooms, classrooms. Above all, the entire college was made a green campus. With the help of forest department, 15 lakh plants and its beautification were materialized.
The golden jubilee celebrations were held under a five-day international Webinar Birsa Munda lecture series at Kolhan University, the first of its kind initiative at Kolhan University. In the same series, a seven-day webinar on the new education policy was organized by the University. The present Principal Dr. A.K. Jha launched the Programme for development of personality of students on the occasion of Hindi Day on 14th September.
Under this, one class a week has been reserved for students in each department. On this day, he will express his views on any subject. It has been made a part of the routine. In his own way, Dr. A.K. Jha, Principal, Welfare Hostel, Institute for the development of tribal students started the Competitive Examination Preparation Centre by providing 266 books and providing a computer from the Institute. It was inaugurated by Dr. Prof. Gangadhar Panda, Vice Chancellor, Kolhan University.
